About Our Legal Team

Christopher L. Mewborn and Brett J. DeSelms were the founding attorneys of Mewborn & DeSelms, Attorneys at Law. The firm originated in 1997 as Mewborn Law Office, later becoming Mewborn & DeSelms when Mr. DeSelms, a 2007 law school graduate, earned partnership status. J. Timothy Wilson, a law school classmate of Mr. DeSelms, joined the practice in 2018 and is now an owner as well.  Jonathan Eure joined the practice in 2018 and recently earned partnership status at the firm.

Each are firmly committed to the pursuit of excellence in providing quality legal representation to individuals, business and local government entities throughout eastern North Carolina and beyond. It is their mission to adhere to the strictest personal and professional ethics while delivering unfaltering dedication and client service.

Christopher L. Mewborn

Attorney Mewborn has been practicing law in North Carolina since 1991. Mr. Mewborn clerked for the Honorable Sidney S. Eagles, former Chief Judge of the North Carolina Court of Appeals, for two years before entering private practice in the Raleigh area. He returned to his hometown of Jacksonville in 1997 to establish Mewborn Law Office and serve his community with quality legal representation through a general law practice. More recently, he teamed with attorney Brett DeSelms to create the law firm of Mewborn & DeSelms, Attorneys at Law, which he co-owns.

Today, Mr. Mewborn maintains a busy real estate and workers’ compensation practice and also counsels clients in matters pertaining to civil litigation, personal injury, business and corporate law, and wills and estates.

Brett J. DeSelms

Originally from Wilmington, North Carolina, attorney DeSelms joined Mewborn Law Office in 2007, allowing our office to expand its general law practice to include civil litigation, criminal law and family law matters.

As a co-owner in the renamed Mewborn & DeSelms, Attorneys at Law, Mr. DeSelms provides quality representation in the areas of workers’ compensation, personal injury, business law, probate and civil litigation.

J. Timothy Wilson

Attorney Wilson grew up on a farm in Scotland Neck, North Carolina. He received his undergraduate degree from North Carolina State University and graduated from the Norman Adrian Wiggins School of Law at Campbell University in 2007. J. Timothy Wilson joined Mewborn & DeSelms in 2018 and is now a partner.

Jonathan Eure

Jonathan is originally from Morganton, North Carolina. He graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with Bachelor of Arts degrees in History and Political Science. He then attended Campbell University’s Norman Adrian Wiggins School of Law where he obtained his Juris Doctor in 2017. While at Campbell’s School of Law, Jonathan served on the Honor Court as an associate justice and wrote articles for the Campbell Law Observer.

In 2018, Jonathan joined Mewborn & DeSelms, Attorneys at Law. Jonathan practices in a number of areas, primarily in real estate, both residential and commercial, estate administration and disputes, and civil litigation. Jonathan is licensed to practice law in North Carolina.

Craig Dye

Craig Dye is originally from Lexington, Kentucky. He received a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice from Sam Houston State University and received his J.D. from Campbell University School of Law. Prior to law school, Craig worked in the insurance industry for six years. During that time, he worked as a private investigator on behalf of multiple insurance companies and later as a claims adjuster.

While in law school, Craig was involved in the Domestic Violence Advocacy Project, Environmental Law Society, and served as Managing Editor of the Campbell Law Observer. He also received a “Book Award” for receiving the highest grade in his Advanced Legal Writing class and “Honors” in his appellate brief writing course.

Sharon Dawn Griffin

Sharon Griffin is an honors graduate of North Carolina State University and graduated magna cum laude from Campbell School of Law. Sharon interned at the North Carolina Supreme Court, and began her legal career as a litigator at a firm in Raleigh, North Carolina. Sharon also served as Executive General Counsel to the North Carolina Association of County Commissioners, worked for the National Association of Counties, and practiced civil, employment and workers compensation law in Morehead City. Sharon’s experience also includes serving as the Onslow County Manager for four years.

Sharon is an experienced attorney who provides quality representation in litigation, local government and business law, personnel investigations, local government management consulting, wills and estates, and personal injury law. Sharon is also certified by the North Carolina Dispute Resolution Commission to conduct Superior Court Mediations.
